Have a ball with this festive dessert idea for the 4th of July!

My family's 4th of July celebration is a big deal. We gather by the lake, grill hot dogs, eat Auntie Carol's famous potato salad, play games and just enjoy being together as a family. Every year I like to bring some kind of dessert to really pack a patriotic punch! Last year, it was the Flag Cupcake Cake. Sticking with a no-fork-needed sweet, I tried something new. Hello Cake Ball Flag Cake!

Let me show you how I did it! First grab some Betty Crocker® SuperMoist® white cake mix, Betty Crocker® Whipped frosting and colored candy melts (found at your local craft store).

Heat oven to 350°F. Make and bake cake mix as directed on box for 13x9-inch pan, using water, oil and eggs. Cool completely, about 1 hour.

Crumble cake into large bowl. Add frosting; mix well.

Using 1-inch scoop, shape mixture into balls. Roll with your hand quickly to smooth and place on cookie sheet lined with wax paper. Freeze about 45 minutes or until firm.

In 1-quart microwavable bowl, microwave red candy melts uncovered on High 1 minute 30 seconds; stir. Continue microwaving and stirring in 15-second increments until melted and smooth.

I then put the bowl in a pan of really hot water to keep the mixture melted and smooth.

Remove a few balls from refrigerator at a time. Dip and roll 1 ball at a time in coating. Return to cookie sheet; immediately sprinkle with sugar crystals (that match the color you are dipping of course).

You want to make a total of 28 red, 23 white and 12 blue.

You can store in container until you are ready to serve. Then arrange them on your platter and raise a toast to the 4th of July and your amazing dessert!
