For most American families, tuna fish is the only fish they have stocked in the pantry. And, why not? Tuna is easy to cook with and super inexpensive. Next time you head down the tuna aisle in the grocery store, take a look at all of the canned shellfish offerings, then head on over to the seafood aisle and peruse the varieties. It's easy to look at the price per ounce of shellfish and go for a less expensive meat like chicken or ground beef. But keep in mind that a little bit of seafood can go a long way in recipes. You don't need a many shrimp, for example, in a pasta salad because you can bulk up the meal with lots of vegetables which complement the shrimp and lend huge health benefits. Shellfish1
Clams, mussels, shrimp, crab and scallops can add new flavors and textures to your dinner table, but they also lend key nutrients to your diet. Shellfish is naturally low in fat, and are chock full of zinc and iron. While shellfish aren't as high in Omega-3 fatty acids as salmon, they are still a good source of those healthy fats. So, what are you waiting for? Here are five fun ways to add shellfish to your regular routine. These recipes are so delicious, you'll be glad you've got them on hand! ClamDip_JW

Lobster Rolls. One of the least expensive ways to add shellfish to your menu is by purchasing a pack of imitation lobster or crab. Heat a cup or so of imitation lobster in the microwave just until warmed. Squeeze fresh lemon juice on top, then serve in a soft roll with mayonnaise. How easy was that?!

When serving shellfish at a dinner party or potluck, always be sure to ask about shellfish allergies. It's easy to hide shellfish inside a soup or dip and feed the potentially dangerous allergen to an unsuspecting guest. Just something to consider as you plan and prepare these delicious recipes!
