How to Make an Amazing Sandwich Loaf

Jump start the classic sandwich loaf with updated flavors. You'll love it!

Sandwich loaves were popular way back when. I’m talking about my Grandma’s generation here. It typically consisted of a loaf of bread that Grandma would make herself. She would slice it twice vertically (in order to make 3 layers) and then fill with various salads (like chicken salad, egg salad, ham salad, etc.). She would then “ice” it with softened cream cheese and top it with egg slices and chives. Straight out of the pages of an episode of "Leave It to Beaver".

Well, we’re updating this classic with modern flavors, like black bean couscous salad and hummus.

We’re using prepared rolls to make it easier and more portion friendly. We’re also using a prepared black bean couscous salad that you can pick up in the deli section of most grocery stores. We’re putting the “icing” on the loaf using a white bean hummus, but you can use any flavor that floats your boat. I think roasted red pepper would also be fab.

It’s big on texture and flavor and something that will definitely get the conversation started.

Blogger Paula Jones from Bell'alimento shows us how to make an updated version of the classic sandwich loaf.
