Salad Shakers

By making Mason Jar Salad Shakers in advance, you have grab-and-go lunches for the whole week!

My parents have a very large vegetable garden, so I’m the happy recipient of MANY mason jars full of canned veggies. Yes, I am a lucky girl! But once those homegrown goodies are eaten, I’m left with a slew of empty jars. Because my parents don’t live nearby, I try to re-purpose them until our next visit, when I can swap out the empty jars for more canned delights!

What do we do with all those mason jars? Well, we love to drink sweet tea out of them. (It’s something we do in the South.) And we also love to make salad shakers.

Salad Shakers

One evening, we’ll fill several jars with salad fixings. Then for the next few days, we can grab them and go for a healthy lunch option. Once assembled, the Mason Jar Salad Shakers stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to four days.

When you’re assembling your salad shakers, the key is to keep the dressing away from the greens. That’s it! You can get as creative as you like. Add whatever you have on hand. Right before you want to eat it, just shake the jar so that the dressing mingles with the rest of the ingredients.

Voila! An easy, healthy lunch that you can grab on your way out the door!
