We move a lot. In the last 9 years, we have lived in 8 different homes, 4 different states and 2 countries. We are really good at moving and have our system down. But no matter how organized and prepared we are, moving day is stressful. There are boxes everywhere and movers coming in and out. Plus, we try to clean as we go. The goal is always to sleep in our beds on the first night.

By the time moving day has arrived, we usually have been living on the road for awhile, and all we want to do is be home. That means having dinner in our new house. Now, when I say “dinner”, I am using the term loosely! Usually, one of the first things to come off the moving truck is our grill, so it is the perfect dinner solution. We start the day with a run to the grocery store to get cleaning supplies, drinks and snacks. While I am there, I pick up a few things to make dinner. After a long day of unloading and unpacking, we fire up the grill, make some tables out of boxes, grab an icy cold beer and have Texas Tommy Hot Dogs to celebrate surviving the day. Admittedly, it is not the prettiest meal I cook. But what the hot dogs lack in beauty, they make up for in flavor!

Start with hot dogs, cheddar cheese, bacon and hot dog buns.

Cut a slit lengthwise in each hot dog. Break the cheese into pieces that will fit inside the hot dog. texas-tommy_1
Wrap a piece of bacon fairly tightly around the hot dog. (This helps keep the cheese inside.) Secure with a toothpick. texas-tommy_3

Place on a preheated grill, and cook until the bacon is cooked. Turn them frequently, being careful not to the let them burn. Toast the bun, and enjoy the best hot dog you have ever had! texas-tommy_5
