Believe it or not, we saw this easy pumpkin donuts idea on Pinterest, so we gave it a whirl in the Betty Crocker Kitchens — and fell in love. You will too!

Pumpkin is definitely one of the “it” flavors of fall baking and these pumpkin spice donuts are the perfect way to celebrate it. We originally spotted this recipe on Pinterest, but don’t let that give you pause — it is super straightforward and fail-proof fall dessert. (No fancy baking or quirky ingredients here, even if you don’t know how to make pumpkin donuts. If you have an oven and a donut pan, you are already two steps ahead!) After giving the recipe a try in the Betty Crocker Kitchens, it was love at first bake.

While there are many reasons to love these doughy delights, what really drew us in is that they are baked, not fried, and made with simple ingredients like sugar, spice and everything nice. Well, to be more specific, they are made with Betty’s own yellow cake mix, which makes them delicious and easy to bake to boot. Mix in a can of pumpkin purée and a dash of pumpkin spice and the rest is a cakewalk, or should we say, a donut stroll. (Doesn’t have quite the same ring to it, does it?!)

Serve them with your favorite cup of coffee or maybe a chai tea, curl up on the couch with a delicious book or your favorite series and the perfect autumn afternoon is made!

Ingredients

Donuts

1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Yellow Cake Mix

1 15-oz can pumpkin purée

2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice

Sugar Coating

2 tablespoons pumpkin pie spice

3 tablespoons sugar

Steps

  1. Heat oven to 350° F. Spray donut pan with cooking spray.
  2. In medium bowl, mix all donut ingredients with spoon until blended. Spoon batter into donut pan, filling each well about halfway.
  3. Bake for 9 minutes or until the tops look dry and the bottoms are golden. Let cool for 5 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, combine sugar and pumpkin pie spice in a small bowl.
  5. While the donuts are still slightly warm, dip the top of each donut into the bowl and cover with sugar coating.

Tips from the Betty Crocker Kitchens

Tip 1
To make filling the donut pan easier and faster, spoon the batter into a resealable plastic storage bag, snip the tip of the corner and pipe the batter into the pan.

Tip 2
True story: 100% pure solid packed pumpkin is the same thing as pumpkin purée, and you can use either one for this donut recipe.
