how to make white sauce for apple dumplings

Hello,

I found this sauce in an old cookbook, could this be the one you are looking for?

Vanilla sauce:

  • 2 cups milk

  • 1 vanilla pod    (1 tsp vanilla extract can be substituted)

  • 3 eggs

  • 4 tbl sugar

  • 3/4 cup stiffly whipped cream

Pour milk in small heavy saucepan.  Add vanilla pod; heat to just under boiling point.  Remove vanilla pod; wipe dry; store.

Beat eggs until lemon-colored.  Pour small amount hot milk over eggs; stir constantly.  Return to remaining hot milk in saucepan; cook, stirring constantly, over low hear about 20 min, until thick.  Remove from heat; stir in sugar.  Let cool; fold in whipped cream gradually.

Use on apple dumplings.

Enjoy

Leila
