Need Slow Cooker Ideas

I love to use my slow cooker, because I know that dinner will be ready when I get home from work. Does anyone have any new ideas that use chicken or pork?

Big Smile Hello!!! Firstly, I will tell u that I am a die-hard slow cooker fan.....there is nothing better than being able to put some things in a pot...and forget abt it for a lil while..lol..not only am I going to try M_Golds BBQ Beef, but I wanted to tell u abt my easy chicken recipe....I use boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or boneless/skinless thighs if money is tight) and I add a can of chicken broth...i season the chix breast with smoked paprika, kosher coarse salt, and black peppercorns...yum yum and yum..i also add onions, potatoes and celery, but usually in the last hour or so of cooking..it tastes great and i serve it with white rice...

When making stews, etc, in my slow cooker, I use canned potatos instead of fresh ones, as they don't break down like regular potatos after being cooked a long time.  I also use canned potatos to make a quick potato salad when unexpected company arrives, etc.  You must drain and rinse them really good before using, however.

This is a fast but great meal for pork or beef. I use boneless pork or like beef round steak.(You can use pork chops, but it's so tender the bones are messy)

Cut meat in 2" x 3" pieces and brown in oil on both sides....centers will still be pink. Put in the crock pot and add 2 cans of Campbells "Beefy Mushroom Soup" it's not the regular mushroom soup. It's more like a beefy gravy. Just a dash of salt....because the soup is salty enough and some pepper. You can add a can of mushrooms if you like and cook for a few hours. It comes out so tender you could cut it with a spoon. Remove and top noodles or mashed potatos with remaing gravy. Prep time is like 15 mins. ENJOY!!

This is similar to a dish i make and my husband loves it!

* Round Steak or Tender Steak - cut into serving size pieces (I don't brown) (enough to feed your family)

* 2-3 cans (depending on how much gravy you like & how much steak you use) of Golden Mushroom Soup

* Carton of Fresh Sliced Mushrooms

Cut steak up into serving size pieces if not done already.  I remove any fat and season with Salt & Pepper.  Spray crockpot with non-stick spray.  Lay meat in bottom, then soup and fresh mushrooms.  I usually season with a little salt & pepper.  Cook on low 6-8 hours. Last 1/2 hour or so I put on high and take lid off to thicken up the gravy, but you don't have to do that.  I serve with mashed potatoes.

Shredded Pork Shoulder

Have your butcher cut a whole pork shoulder (butt) in half.  Salt and pepper liberally, then brown on all sides in a skillet on the stovetop.  Add one can of chicken or beef broth to the crockpot and add the roast.  Cook on high until the roast is falling apart.  Remove all the pieces of meat from the pot, then let your imagination run wild.  We shred the meat with forks (removing fat) and mix with smokey barbeque sauce for an awesome smoked pork sandwich.  You can also serve meat in chunks alongside some pork gravy and mashed potatoes.  Or make an open face pork and gravy sandwich.  The meat is so tender that it lends itself to a variety of applications.  Enjoy!

These recipes are great - please keep sharing!

Here is one for chicken:

4 to 5 boneless skinless frozen chicken breasts or thighs (I have used bone in fresh to save $ on weekends when I'm available to debone and de-skin after it's been in the pot a couple of hours).

1 can cream of chicken, mushroom, or celery soup - whichever is your favorite.

1 8 oz package of cream cheese (low or no fat is fine)

1 package of Good Seasons Italian Dressing mix

Place breasts or thighs in slow cooker and top with cream cheese (I cut mine into cubes) and sprinkle the Italian dressing mix over it.

Serve over noodles  - we fight over any leftovers!

HI I USE MY SLOWCOOKER ALOT. THE ONE THING I COOK IN IT IS COUNTRY STYLE PORK RIBS OR BONELESS PORK RIBS. JUST SEASON THE RIBS WITH WHAT YOU WANT PUT THEM IN THE COOKER WITH YOUR FAVORIT BBQ SAUCE AND A LITTLE WATER STIR IT A LITTLE AND PUT IT ON LOW AND LET IT COOK ALL DAY AND THE MEAT COMES OUT TENDER AND GOOD. AND YOU HAVE SAUCE TO GO WITH IT. YOU CAN EVEN CUT UP SOME ONIONS AND PUT WITH IT IN THECOOKER, BUT DONT CUT THEM TO SMALL CAUSE THEY WILL DISSAPEAR. TRY IT IM SURE YOU WILL LIKE IT.

M_Golds hi there.i really like your idea of cooking roast beef that way. do you cook it on low for 5 hours or Hi, then use bbg sauce, and also how much water do you put in to start?

if you like country style ribs here is my tasty. sprinkle ribs with garlic salt, seasoning salt, pepper onion powder and rub in. broil under high heat and sear on all sides.sear until crispy on the outside of the ribs.  put your favorite b b q sauce, just  a little in bottom of crock pot and layer your ribs alternating with bbq sauce top with onions and bbq sauce.  cook low for 8-10 hrs.  serve over wide noodles or rice.  hot bread works well with this and fruit dish.  good luck.  always comes out great.

Our newest family favorite is    Fajitas

You can use whatever meat you like....Beef, Chicken, Shrimp, Fish (sliced in stripes)  about 1/4 Cup liquid  (chicken broth, beef broth, vegetable broth or water)    Slice Onions, Peppers (RED,GREEN,YELLOW.ORANGE) Toss with fajitas seasoning (availabe in most grocery stores).  Place vegetables on rack in crock pot and place meat (also tossed with fajitas seasoning) of your choice on top.  Cook on low all day and in the last 20 minutes or so add sliced tomatos.  All ingredients are measured by the size of your crock pot .  The important thing is to not add too much liquid...the food is basically steamed and you will get additional  liquid from your meat and vegetables.  (We have also used vegetable broth and added both chicken and beef.)  Serve with salsa, guacamole, grated cheese, sour cream and tortillas.  Also as a side you can have refried beans and or rice.  YUMMY!

Hi,

When using my crock-pot, I make chicken soup. I cut up potatoes, carrots and celery and then will place chicken thighs on top cover with water and let cook on low all day long. When getting home from work it is all done all you have to do is cook up the noodles.

I am a single mother, and full time student, I need easy, good, meals for my 13 and 11 yr. old children. I must say, EVERYBOBY has just LOVED this meal!  I get PORK Baby Back ribs (In the slab), I put 2-3 slabs, into a LARGE stock pot on the stove, stay with me here, it does end up in the slow cooker!  I leave the slabs, as a slab, when I put them in the LARGE stock pot. I add, to taste, as much or as little as you wish:  OLD BAY SEASONING, OREGANO, ONION (SEASONING, POWDER, SALT, OR FRESH!) LAWRY'S SEASONING SALT, MARJORAM, LIQUID SMOKE FLAVORING, GROUND PEPPER, GROUND CORIANDER, AND GARLIC (POWDER, SALT OR FRESH!)   I do not use a lot, as you boil the slabs, for 40-60mins. I do this, to rid the meat of a lot of the fat!  Once boiled, I use tongs, and put the slabs on a cookie sheet, only to cut into single boned pieces, and I then put them, hot, into the crock pot.  All this, up to this point, really only takes, 1 1/2 hrs, tops! And you can do this the night before, and then, let ribs cool, place in frig, til morning. I like to boil the ribs, with seasonings, you do not have to!  Place ribs into crock pot, with any spices of your choice. I make my own BBQ sauce, and pour over the ribs, I also add some of the boiled water, or any stock of your choice, for the liquid. I cover, with my homemade BBQ sauce, and water, and any spices, cover, put on LOW, you will have the best, fall off the bone ribs, EVER!  My children BEG me, often to make these. I do hope you'll give them a try, good luck!!

Another  Family  Favorite  is       Apple Pork Chops

Season pork chops as desired.....

slice apples and onions thinly

Place apples and onions on rack in crock pot....place pork chops on top...add 1/2up of apple juice or cider.

Cook on High for 6-8 hours (if pork chops are frozen)  Low for 3-4 hours if thawed.

Use however many pork chops you need for your dinner, apples and onions use enough for a bed on which to lay the pork chops, this is also a great side dish.

When you get home the house will smell fabulous!!!!!!

Brunswick Stew- Makes Large Crock Pot

Use whole skinned chicken in about 2-3 c water,I cook in crockpot, debone it,refrigerate in cooled pot quickly,. Next day defat it  and Add 20 oz Vegall, 20 oz diced tomatoes, 12 oz. each cream corn, kernal corn, string beans, tomato sauce, 4 oz tomato paste. large chopped onion, garlic powder, worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper to taste.  Some people like butter beans and add or take out veggies they don't like or can use @ 5 chicken breasts instead of whole chicken for a one day prep. I find this does not have the flavor of the whole chicken

i have a recipe for beef tips! All you do is take some beef tips, a can of cream of mushroom soup, a can of cream of celery soup, alittle water,  some garlic salt,  and salt and pepper in the slow cooker together. Turn it on high and let it cook all day. I only have to make it for two ppl so you might have to add some extra cans of soup for more ppl. If you serve it over rice it makes a complete meal! Its really simple and easy too. the only thing you really have to do is make the rice and i use the boil a bag rice so its quick and easy!

Pork, Potato and Green Bean Stew

4 red potatoes, cut into 1/2 inch cubes

   1 onion chopped

   2 cloves of garlic minced

2 cans (14 oz each) chicken broth divided

1/3 cup all-purpose flour

2 cups frozen cut green beans

   2 tsp worcestershire sauce

1/2 tsp dried thyme leaves

1/2 tsp black pepper

Heat pork loin, potatoes, onion and garlic with 1 can chicken broth in skillet for 5 to 10 minutes over medium heat.  Transfer to crock pot.

Combine 1/4 cup chicken broth and flour in a small bowl. Set aside.

Add remaining broth, green beans, worcestershire sauce, thyme and pepper to crock pot and stir. Cover and cook 8 to 10 hours on low or 4 to 5 hours on high.  If low turn to high last 30 minutes. Stir in flour mixture. Cook 30 minutes to thicken. Serve.                                              Makes 8 servings

I have enjoyed this recipe and hope that you do also. This is not one of my recipes but one I have in one of my cook books.

Yes.   I just got a great slow cooker in November.   I lost my old one in a house fire 5 years ago, so I was looking for slow cooker recipes myself.   The Betty Crocker cookbook has a whole section on slow cooker recipes and several meat recipes have an added section just for slow cookers.   Also, Readers' Digest just offered a slow cooker cookbook which I bought and am currently salivating over.    I am dying to try a ham and bean soup, and rice pudding, and numerous other things.   The Betty Crocker cookbook has a wonderful recipe called Creamy Chicken and Noodles.   Fifteen minutes to prepare and delicious.   I did find that chicken legs worked better than chicken breasts as the breasts tended to be somewhat dry despite the sauce they are cooked in.    I added potatoes to the original recipe and you just layer the items in the cooker, turn it on and when you walk in the door at night you can hardly believe how wonderful it smells.   Last week I did a pork tenderloin over potatoes, onions and carrots and it was great.   I'm going to try a beef stew shortly also.   (I love beef stew).

Hi everyone. I'm new here found my first recipe from the site yesterday and it turned out great! I made the beef stroganoff but made a few changes. Instead of the canned soups I used a package of the dry Onion-Mushroom soup mix with 2 cups of water instead of the 2 1/2 it called for. I used a half cup of red cooking wine instead. I seasoned with basil but I think I was too stingy with it this time out. Now I am hunting for one for boneless pork chops. My wife works days as a preschool teacher and I work 3rd shift so it helps I come in from work and start up the crock pot and we have dinner when she gets in from work and I wake up for the day.
