Welcome to the Scratch Bakers Club

We want to hear your scratch recipes and tips!
So we started this group (okay... so we don't have group functionality yet... and we're working on that so until then, we just made this it's own category!).
We’re excited to explore this subject with you! There are some great things we have in store. For example, Rose Levy Beranbaum will be joining the conversations. More details will come… until then, let’s get get cooking!

Sincerely, CC & Patty

Big SmileLove to bake anything from scratch...it helps me relax--especially bread.  By the time you knead the dough 8-10 minutes, you are a lot less frustrated than when you began.  Lots better than anything from a tube, box, or freezer too.  Sign me up!  I'll get some recipes together and put them out there for anybody who's interested.  Look forward to sharing with you!Geeked

Looking forward to our next morsel together:)

Hi Patty.  Sign me up as well! I would love to swap some recipes with skipbit and everyone.  I hope jord9801 will post her recipe for buttermilk biscuits.  I make mine from scratch but with regular milk. So am interested in hers.

Hi Everyone: We just started this category and we are pretty excited about! In the next few days we'll have some focused threads in which we would love your thoughts and advice.

I've made a few things from scratch... but it's an area that I want to understand better. So, to say the least- I'm happy you are here. And look forward to learning more from you.

Sincerely, Cate

Count me in. I rarely use box mixes for anything although, I do use cake mixes more than not.

i'm utterly convinced that if everyone baked bread once in a while it would be a better world!

Hi everyone,

I am fairly new to yeast bread baking, and would like to learn from others who are better at it than I am (which, I'm sure, would be 99.999% of the people on this board).  I started with making my own pizza dough because the older I get, the less I'm able to eat pizzeria pizza -- just too much salt and fat.  When I realized that my pizza dough was delicious, I figured I'd move on to bigger and better things.

By the way, Rose - I just got The Bread Bible and have hardly put it down (except to bake, of course).  I've learned a lot just by reading through the chapters, and I can't wait until I get a few recipes under my belt.

Happy baking everyone.

Hi patty, Count me in to! Most of what I cook is from scratch, there is only two of us and most recipes are for familes, but I cook for my parents once a month and church pot-lucks 1-2 times a month. I love to cook/bake and try new/different recipes.  My motto is "I've been pounding screws with a hatchit for so long that I can make anything form nothing"Smile Granna2

Hi Patty,

Please sign me up this. I taught myself to bake and it has been from scratch ever since. When I am baking I feel like I am in my own world, cause I love it so much. Of all the baking that I do pies are my specialty, especially apple pie. I am always looking forward to trying new recipes. When seeing this I just have to sign up
