MEAL PLANNING ON A BUDGET

We're trying to make a huge dent in our grocery bill. Does anyone remember great recipes our mom's whipped up to stretch meat and other staples? We do a lot of soups and stews, but are in need of a fresh menu. I'm looking for those home favorites with simple ingredients. I love to try new recipes, but by the time I buy all the ingredients, my budget is shot. Kids aren't crazy about tuna, but other than that, they're not too picky. any ideas?

One of my managers at work told me a horror story about dented cans getting bacteria in them and causing people to get REALLY sick. DONT BUY DENTED CANS!!!

I want to thank everyone for their ideas. I use to spend almost $3000.00 a month for groceries, since I have been out of work I have had to cut way back under $700.00 now I spend around $500.00 and I'm sure I can cut out some more. I went to the store today and bought 4 meals for $56.00, not bad. I still haven't tried cutting coupons that's next. I did forget to mention family size, there is 5 of us down from 7, two teenage boys are now out of the house. I love the ideas I get from here, keep them coming

I make chicken and dumplings. I boil chicken and pull apart after it's cool, 2 cans cream of chicken soup, 1 cup water, 1 bag of frozen mixed vegetables. I cook that in the crockpot for 2 hours on high then add 1 can buttermilk bisquit cut into 4 and cook for another 45 min to hour. It's a filling meal and my children enjoy it

I just went through 6 weeks of buget meal planning. It was tough, but I'm thankful I did it (so is my bank account)! If you have a chance you can see the 6 budget challenges here: http://www.bettycrocker.com/Community/Blogs/ViewBlog.aspx?app=b&u=113626
