Diet COMFORT foods

I have just started a complete diet of NO sweets. I am on day 10 and have no sweets No sugar except the sugar found in fruits so on so forth. What are some healthy choices for the Comfort foods I so enjoy. I would love to have a cookie again with my cup of tea after work in the afternoons. I would love to have bread on my supper plate and can I somehow enjoy pasta again. Any help out there?

IF you do not cook you do not live! Don't eat out of a box or fast food window all your life. Open a cookbook and begin a new chapter in your life.

My suggestion is to have a cookie with your tea some afternoons and to have a piece of bread with supper some nights and to have pasta occassionally!

There are many cookies available with little or no sugar.  If none are available at the stores in your area, you can make your own cookies using Splenda instead of sugar and Smart Balance spread instead of butter.

Moderation, not elimination is the key to most successful diets.

My boyfriend and I both have issues with sugar, he's type II diabetic and I'm hypoglycemic.  There are some very good sugar free cookies out there, but I will say they are expensive.  Go to Splenda's website, they have some great cookie recipes.  As for the pasta, there is a new pasta out there that has a total of 5 digestible carbs that allow you to have some pasta.  It's called Dreamfield Pasta, they too have a website if you're interested in reading about it.

Good luck with your diet.

Kudos to you for 10 days with no sweets! Yikes and we're heading into the holidays with rich and abundant foods. You might want to try eating really slowly and savoring every little bite. Instead of giving up entirely, find comfort in pasta and breads that are whole grain and chewy. Look at the nutrition data on cookie recipes to determine what you can give up - meringue cookies are really low in fat. Know that you're not in this alone.

DebbyElen, Congrats!Yes. I used to have a friend that seemed to eat every thing and didn't gain a pound,Surprise. Here is the short of her story!, She had been heavy?!? and lost weight and here's how she kept if off, back before all of this artificial diet stuff!!! she ate in moderation, She followed this: 1st.week, no bread or starches,2nd.week no sugar, not just cookies, pies or cake, 3rd week. nothing fried!!! 4th. week she ate what ever she wanted, in moderation! She started walking with 1 mile, untill she walked 5 miles a day, everyday pretty much. For example the week she didn't eat sugar, she ate bread, pasta,. Now not every eating program is going to work for everyone, but this is one way to get those foods your cravingSmile. Lots of luck and stay away from anything artifical!!!! Granna2

DebbyEllen:

Have you been to our sister site, eatbetteramerica.com?

They have plenty of helpful recipes and information that may fit the bill. Like here is one piece where somebody says they are looking for soul food. Hope this helps and inspires you on this diet. http://www.eatbetteramerica.com/askexpert/cooking-techniques/85.aspx
