How do YOU create big flavors on a small budget??

I am allergic to the following foods; cow products, like cheese, ice cream, sour cream, cream chesse, etc.   I have found alteratives to them.  I use several herbs ans spices, plus fresh vegatables. There are several spices and vegatables I use all the time. I purchase my herbs and spices at a fresh food market. They are fresher than in other stores

Instead of buying herbs to add flavor, why not grow your own?  This can be done easily in containers.  I always grow many varieties of herbs, use them fresh all summer/fall, and then freeze the remaining ones so I can add them to stews and soups in the winter.  Best way to add flavor on a small budget.  Also, I grow HOT peppers in containers.  These are great for adding flavor when you use a crock pot to cook.  Many slow cooker recipes can be bland w/out added spices;  hot peppers add just the right amount of flavor.  The hotter the better.

definately I keep well stocked on herbs and spices.  Fresh herbs which I grow are rosemary, basil, parsley, thyme. sage and chives.  These herbs except for the rosemary grow great in window boxes also.  Makes everything taste great.  The woodier parts of the rosemary make great skewers for kabobs and add so much flavor at the same time.
