Hello! My name is Melody :) I am 33, mom to a rambunctious 4 year old son, and wife to the absolute best husband ever! LOL :)  Life is never dull or boring around here-- I organize a local playgroup, work as a nanny for a family, take Wilton cake decorating classes, scrapbook with the girls,  and am the CFO of Domestic Affairs!  And believe me when I say, I am never short of "official tasters" for my goodies. I cook every day for my family and frequently can be found baking "a little something" for them. Baking is such a joy for me and my love for others often takes shape in layers of cake and homemade buttercream. Not to mention pies, cookies, fudge, cupcakes, and more. I am living The Sweet Life!

1) What kind of cook/baker are you? Do you have any specialties? If so, what are they?

I do have a few specialties-- my Fettuccine Chicken Alfredo, Shredded Pork  or Chicken Tacos, and Guiso de Puerco are some of my most requested dinners. I enjoy cooking and baking from scratch. I like using fresh, local ingredients. For baking, some of my specialties are my Derby Pie, Chocolate Bombe cake, Mexican wedding cookies, and my layered Strawberry & White Chocolate Cake.

2) What brings you to the community?

I am always in search of new favorite recipes. I especially like sites where others have posted reviews.  It's nice to find a community of people who enjoy baking as much as I do! :)

3) Describe your kitchen in 5 words: Bright, Cozy, Clean, Inviting, Therapeutic

4) What kitchen appliance you can't live without: Big-- my stand mixer... Little-- measuring spoons. (Cooking is a an art, Baking is a science and requires exact proportions. Unless it's vanilla-- I never measure vanilla, just go by the smell! LOL)

5) Anything else to share?

Ok, here's five random things about me:

1. I read cookbooks like people read novels.

2. I bake cakes for sale.

3. I am left handed, which presents certain challenges when decorating cakes.

4. I refuse to make a fruitcake.

5. I have a cool trick for smoothing the tops and sides of my cakes.

(1) What kind of cook/baker are you? Do you have any specialties? If so, what are they?

I consider myself an experimental cook and I love/specialize in cooking Mexican food.

(2) What brings you to the community?

Looking for great recipes and great people to interact with.

(3) Describe your kitchen in 5 words.

Fun, organized, welcoming, experimental, clean

(4) What kitchen appliance can you not live with out?

Well its not an appliance but I love my cast iron pan - I practically cook everything in it

(5) Anything else you want to share with everyone.

I work in marketing and try and cook whenever I can - I am still learning but I love cooking and I am open to try anything.

Hi Everyone, I'm new here.  I've always enjoyed cooking with either Bisquick or my own premix....makes life a lot easier :)

I have always enjoyed cooking and baking.  There is something very comforting about the scent of something coming from the kitchen.   Glad to meet everyone.

Hi everyone! My name is Robin and I adore cooking (hate cleaning up though). I have been in a committed relationship for the past 26 years and I'm loving life. We have 3 awesome kids and 6 amazing grandchildren! I am a student (yeah, I know...I've lost my mind), I work full time, then go home to deal with the family. I"d like to get some suggestions for really quick, healthy meals.

Hi! I am MFNBKR (Muffin Baker) I love to make muffins! I have about a bazillian different recipes and tips for this subject. If you ever need a muffin idea, I'm your go-to person! I have made my meatloaf in muffin tins and frosted the tops with mashed potatoes, I have put Thanksgiving stuffing in muffin tins for a big crowd, I have made muffins with fruits, vegetables, spirits, liquors, fruit fillings, and I love collecting cast iron muffin tins.I live in Akron, OH (home of LeBron James) and also love  Watching the Cleveland Cavs.  I love to bake, and my cooking is limited to anything that I can make in 10 minutes. I love finding new ways to make stuffed peppers. My cooking usually starts with a Betty Crocker box and I add my own touches to make it different. I like looking like a gourmet, but I won't spend the time to become a gourmet. I love shopping in our nationally-known "Westpoint Market" which is where I get a lot of new recipes. I am also on the Duncan Hines blog as MFNBKR. I will give you tips and recipes on anything that I can, and am not afraid to share with others. I look forward to blogging with you! -Muffin baker.

Hi there. I just joined today, though I have gotten recipes from this site before. I am a mom of 2, grandmother of 4 and wife of a great husband. I enjoy cooking, but prefer quick and easy recipes. We are trying to eat in more with the economy, so I need to find variety. I received a Betty Crocker cookbook at my wedding shower in 1972 and it is now taped together. I still refer to it for good information and recipes. I look forward to reading lots of good information and will share what I can. I am going to prepare Grilled Peach- and Mustard-Glazed Pork Tenderloin (a recipe from the website) tonight. I'll let everyone know how it turns out (and if hubby likes it!!)

Hi, Southeast Texas! I'm from Beaumont, how about you? I just joined the "community" so I look forward to meeting lots of good cooks.

Good Afternoon Everyone!!!Smile

I hope you all are having better weather than I am.  Snow stinks...

As for cooking and baking I'm from the old school of I learned from my mom, grandmother and my wonderful Italian greatgrandmother, then what I did not learn from then it's all trial and error... I'm sure we all have had those.

Kitchen in five words (big, active, stocked, loved & family).

It's not really an appliance, but I could not live without my prep sink in my island prep counter.  That way when you have more than one person in there you both can have your own sink and ample work space.  My daughters (3) are all grown married and have children, but when we get together at holidays and stuff it's fun and we have room to spread out and make our own messes.

Does anyone know if Regular Bisquick and the Heart Healthy Bisquick are interchangeable in recipes?

3/9/2009 1:05 PM

Thanks for the bread recipe I know I will enjoy.  By the way my name is Coleen

i'm from SC.  Southern girl!  yes I like grits.  LOL

What kind of cook/baker are you? Do you have any specialties? If so, what are they?

My cooking and baking style is best described as "eclectic". My specialty isn't so much one dish as it is merely the courage to experiment. After all, if I don't care for it, I've  plenty of other people to feed it to so it won't go to waste. There's also always the neighbor's dog. Stick out tongue

What brings you to the community?

I like exchanging ideas and learning new things. I'm also a naturally curious person and love to hear what other people are doing in their kitchens and in their communities.

Describe your kitchen in 5 words.

Sunny, large and absolutely STUFFED. Wink

What kitchen appliance can you not live with out?

As long as I have a good knife (I'm very fond of my Santoku) and a cutting board, I'm good to go! (I'd really miss my dishwasher if it went out on me, though.)

Anything else you want to share with everyone

I really am the Queen of Quiche! I am of the opinion everything tastes better wrapped in pastry and that goes double for leftovers. I'm one of the unfortunate ones who lost her job due to the economy, so I've had plenty of time on my  hands and have been making quiche nearly every day. I share a home with four other people, so it's not as if the food will be wasted. Unfortunately, I seem to be getting a bit on the chunky side, though... Embarrassed It couldn't possibly be the quiche, could it?Surprise I'm divorced with one adult son and a couple of elderly cats. I love to read, learn new things, listen to music, cook and bake (of course!) and watch/feed the urban wildlife we have around here. I'm especially fond of the squirrels and all the neighborhood cats. They do bring me so much amusement! Other than that, I am afraid I'm quite boring right now as I'm spending a lot of time trying to find a new job. *le sigh* I'll find one eventually, it's just now I've got to find things to do in between interviews/resume dropoffs other than making, and eating, quiche every day! *giggles* Big Smile
