I don't know if it does or not but my Mom had a really good date nut bar recipe that was pretty easy.  In fact, I was thinking about making some for the holidays.  If Mom can find it would you like me to send it to you?

I am sorry to say the Betty Crocker Date Bar Mix has been discontinued. I am sorry for the disappointment.

i had a hard time finding this when it was available-no wonder they discontinued it when the stores wouldn't give it space on their shelf-it was the best and so easy to make-why not bring it back for limited time such as at the holidays?

I agree - my family and friends loved to have these on the cookie plate.

I too was dissapponited to find that the date bar mix had been discontinued. Just like the powder frosting mixes I can not find anymore. I kept the empty box of the last date bar mix I had bought hoping to maybe create somtehing close to the mix.  so far no luck. most of the recipes you find have to much oatmeal in them. The mix did not have alot of oatmeal in it. I hope maybe General Mills can bring the mix back again.

I have the same question as groundhog. I used to make this date bar mix all the time and loved it. cant find it any more. Why

Will they bring it back. I hope

Would Starrcross be willing to share the ingredients with the rest of us who are missing the date bar mix?  My husband grew up with the fruitcake several people have mentioned and I have been trying unsuccessfully to recreate it since the mix was discontinued.  At least having the ingredients from the mix would be a start.  Thanks!

Try visiting tasteofhome dot com and searching for Date Bars; there are 10 date bar recipes listed there.  Maybe you'll find one you like.

I have been told that this recipe is very similar to the Date Bar Mix that was discontinued.  It is very good and I hope you enjoy it.

Your posting couldn't have come at a better time. I have been searching for a substitute for Betty Crocker's Date Bar Mix. My Mother always used this for the best fruit cakes ever!

So sad that Betty Crocked made the decision to pull this product from the sheves of grocers across the USA. I thought a good idea was expressed by someone else on this post: Maybe Better Crocker would consider a limited run of this product during the holiday season. I personally know of 30+ people that would be very grateful. Taste may be temporary but goodwill lasts a long time.

bilynda,  do you know if bisquick products, after they have been prepared and baked, can be either frozen, or stored in container and then reheated?  I need this info by 12/23 if possible.

Thanks, sandyt

This is the recipe my mom and I have used for years out of the "old" Betty Crocker Cookbook!!

Date Bars (Matrimonial Cake)

3/4 cup soft shortening (part butter)

1 cup brown sugar /packed

1 3/4 cup flour

1/2 tsp solda

1 tsp salt

1 1/2 cup rolled oats

Heat oven to 400 degree (mod. hot) Mix shortening and sugar.  Measure flour by dip level pour method or by sifting.  Blend flour, soda and salt; stir in.  Mix in rolled oats.  Flatten helf of teh mixture into bottom of greased oblong pan, 13x9.  Spread with cooled Date Filling (below).  Top with remaining crmb mixture patting lightly.  Bake 25 to 30 min.  While warm cut into bars and remove from pan.  Makes about 2 1/2 dozen 2x1 1/2 bars.

Date Filling

Mix 3 cups cut up dates, 1/4 sugar and 1 1/2 cups water in saucepan.  Cooke over low heat, stirring constantly, until thickened about 10 min.  Cool

This recipe is 1 of my favorite holiday traditions of my moms!!!

Blast from the past!!  I look for it every now and then but knew it was discontinued.  But it never hurts to look anyway. I use to make it all the time!  Please bring it back.

While shopping for the holidays, I too found that the powdered frosting mixes are no where to be found.  So I guess I need to buy all new cook books for my holiday baking?  Or can/do I buy commercial size boxes of frosting to complete these recipes?
