What's your first memory of Bisquick and what's your favorite way to use it?

My mom made dumplings all the time when we were growing up, probably because it was a dollar stretcher for the food budget. We loved the dumplings along with drop biscuits and pancakes she also made with little effort.

My first memories of Bisquick were when I would visit my Grandmother and she would make chicken and dumplings using Bisquick. She would also make large, fluffy, hand formed biscuits from Bisquick.

My favorite use is in Impossibly Easy Pies. My favorite is the French Apple Pie recipe.

My first memory of Bisquick is when I was a child. Mother used to make chocolate biscuits for us. They weren't really good, because they had tuna baked into them. Well, we made the best of it: they weren't really that bad when we put mayonaise and grape jelly on them.

That's all we had! Bisquick, grape jelly, mayonaise, and tuna. Well, sometimes we had sardines and peanut butter, because those were cheap in those days too.

Oh, and she used to make peanut butter sardines too, with Bisquick. You would be surprised how good those are.

Especially with mayonaise and grape jelly.

Pancakes.

Fluffy, golden and thick.

With just the right ammount of sweet butter and syrup.

...and Stacked so impossibly high, it took both hands to eat them.

Happy Sunday morning kids

We love you.

When my children were very young, just a couple of years ago!!! Being a single Mom, I stress us making home cooked meals and trying our best to do it as cheeply as possible.  What fun we had.  My oldest son made pizza dough out of bisquick using a small square pan and making dough and pressing it into the pan.  The greatest time was when they got to choose what topping to put on their pizza.  We would then sit and try to guess how much we had saved eating at home instead of out.  And of course how much better our pizza was.  We had pizza, salad, drinks and some spagetti too all for around $2.00 a serving!!! Of course this was many year ago, but it still stands reason to eat at home, making as much as you like, and how you like it...

Besides my Mom making Dumplings for stew, and biscuits, pancakes, on Sunday eve. sometimes my Dad made dough, and made pizza's. I can still taste it. He used Munster cheese instead of Muzzerella. yummy

My first memory is of my mom and me making shortcakes from the strawberry shortcake recipie on the box. I sill make them but I bake them in mini muffin tins so that they are easier to break apart. My whole family loves them.

I also love the pineapple upside down cake!  My Dad's favorite when I was a teen.  He would 'bribe' me to bake one more often than I can remember.  I, however, have lost the original recipe I used but it is not the one I find on this website.  I know I used 2 cups of Bisquick, 2 eggs, 3 tbsp oil, but can't remember how much milk and sugar I used.  I always added a few drops of vanilla and, obviously, the brown sugar, butter, and pineapple topping.  I baked it in an oven-proof stainless steel frying pan and it was wonderful.  I know I blended the Bisquick and sugar in a bowl.  In a measuring cup I measured the milk, added 2 eggs, the oil, and vanilla, and beat this together in the measuring cup before pouring it all into the Bisquick and sugar mix.  Then I stirred all together until just blended, poured the batter over the brn sugar-butter-pineapple that was ready in the frying pan....and popped it into the oven.  I guess I'll have to 'fake it' with the milk and sugar because now I MUST bake one....LOL!  Does this recipe ring a bell with anyone?  BTW, I am now in my 60's. and still bake with Bisquick!

Star  Mom didn't use Bisquick but I did when I got married.  My family liked a couple of the impossible pies, especially the ham and cheese and then the coconut one!  Yumm.   I would also make the Cheeseburger Pie, with cottage cheese, bisquick crust and tomato slices and grated cheese on the top.  I wish my new hubby would eat those now!  I am a frustrated cook with a hubby who is finicky!

Bisquick was one of the first mixes that I could make that would work.  I don't use mixes very often, as I am a better cook from scratch.   Do you still make the confetti angel food cake mix?  That was my favorite cake for my birthday with strawberries and whipped cream for icing!

When I was A teenager back in the 1960's, my dad used to work out of town alot. He always brought home presents to my sister and I. One of my gifts was my first cookbook. It was Betty Crocker Quick & Easy Cookbook. Quite a few were including Bisquick and my first use was the Drop Biscuits. Needless to say that book got quite a bit of use. The pages were stained and falling out of the binder. It is now 2009, I am NOT a teenager anymore, but I still have that book, stained falling out pages and all. I still go to it for good recipe ideas. Thanks for the memories Betty Crocker.Smile

My first memory of Bisquick was my grandmothers chicken & dumplings.  I have been trying to duplicate the taste but so far I am coming up blank.  I wish that I could ask her but she has been gone for more than 20 years.  I don't know if the recipe from back then (about 50 years ago) was different or if the Bisquick formulation was different.  Any and all help would be appreciated.  I can still imagine the taste today and it makes my mouth water.

My Mom made the usual stuff like everyone else's Mom did, but I really liked her Peach Cobbler.  It was heavenly!  That's probably my favorite way to use Bisquick.

My mom would make pancakes with bisquick and when I was in my teens I read the back of the box and decided to make the drop biscuits because they looked like they would be easy for me to make on my own. Not only were they easy but they were delicious too. When I was a young mom I liked making the no crust quiche. The kids loved it too.....

My mother never cooked with bisquick. nor do i think anyone else did or does. But when I was younger say preteens maybe, I came across a recipe for impossible cheeseburger pie. I liked cooking when my mother allowed me to and I wanted us to try it. I loved it. and so did everyone else. Occassionally i get to make it. I prefer to squeeze ketchup drizzles all around the top before cooking. YUM. I tried some soft of lasagna one time too but I did not care for it. I did not know until today al the differant things one could do with bisquick. I am going out tomarrow to get a box and try a few more things.

I too have made my own "red lobster" bisquits before by adding cheese and topping it with fresh ground seasalt/garlic blend. YUMMY!

I can't wait to try the fruit torte and quiche and all that other stuff everyone mentioned. I would love to try chicken and dumplings.

I used Bisquick for the first time when I made Impossible Cheeseburger Pie.  It was delicious.

4/30/2009 2:38 PM

My first memory of Bisquick was when my older brother told me about a receipt he found on the box, that he really liked. It was for impossible coconut pie. I tried it and now I love it also. I always keep a box on hand, for the pie first, and all the other delicious things you can make out of that little box.  Thanks Bisquick!
