What's your first memory of Bisquick and what's your favorite way to use it?

My mom made dumplings all the time when we were growing up, probably because it was a dollar stretcher for the food budget. We loved the dumplings along with drop biscuits and pancakes she also made with little effort.

My first memory of Bisquick is strawberry shortcake made from the recipie on the box.  It's got that sweet biscuit flavor that goes so much better with strawberries and whipped cream than cake.  Yum!  Glad it's strawberry season!

I think that my mom made strawberry shortcake also. But my personal memory was from my Aunt-in-Law, when she told me how to make 'homemade" biscuits. She told me to start out with Bisquick and when I could make it without measureing the ingredents to then use her recipe, which she gave me. That was almost 40 years ago and to this day I use her recipe. I have now decided that it's a "family secret recipe"Wink to be handed down to my granddaughter.

The first thing I made was the biscuits.  I made country style sausage gravy with them for my parents and 3 siblings.  I made a double batch and soon found that it wasn't a big enough batch.  Everyone loves them with butter, grape jelly or honey.

I recently found a recipe for Red Lobsters Cheddar Bay Biscuits.  This recipe uses Bisquick and they make awesome biscuits.  My husband told me that mine are better than Red Lobsters(only because I use more garlic)

My grandma made the most awesome dumplings, I think she used Bisquick.  Not sure cuz I have never been able to make them like she did. And she took her secrets to her grave- then again at 10 years old why would I ask her to write things down.  Lesson here don't keep your secrets- share the family food treasures!!!!
I remember making the cinnamon coffee cake for breakfast--I would either make the cinnamon rolls or making the one with the struesel topping on it. I always doubled the filling in the cinnamon rolls, and added pecans or I doubled the struesel.  That was always the best part.   Both were quick and easy for a pre teen and the kitchen smelled wonderful.

Hi Boys Club, would you post that recipe for the Red Lobsters Cheddar Bay Biscuits? I tried a recipe, but not as good.  I have made the cinnamon rolls and really like them.

My first memory of Bisquick was making bisquits on the weekends with my Dad.  He makes the best sausage gravy and bisquits!

My favorite use of Bisquick is with casseroles.  I use the crust recipe from the chicken pot pie on tuna casserole and other dishes I have made.  Everyone loves it, especially my kids.

My first memory is pancakes on Sunday mornings after church.  My mom would make them thin to stretch out the batter due to financial restraints.....large family.  Then she would cook up bacon and say "Only two pieces each now".  I use the Bisquick now as pancakes and make a bunch of bacon on Sundays!

I worked in a small town diner in Clearlake Oaks CA. 27 years ago. The cook made phenomenal biscuts and gravy. She used bisquik and water patted them out and baked 'em  and they were about 4 inches high. The best biscuts I ever had. I learned how to flip eggs in a pan then and how to make the gravy, but never could get my biscuts to turn out the same.

I still use bisquik today mostly for pancakes or dumplings and occasionally, I still try to get those biscuts that tall.

I have tried almost every recipe on the box and like them all, mainly because it is so basic and taste good too, you can even add your own whatever!.  I always  have a box of bisquick in my kitchen cabinet.  But my first memory has to be making the dumplings I just couldn't get over how easy it was so that has to be my favorite way, I like simple and good!

When strawberries were only available once a year, our family of 6 would have strawberry shortcake suppers using the Bisquick shortcake recipe.  That was the entire supper - all we could eat of strawberry shortcake.  We were the envy of the neighborhood kids.  To this day, it's not real strawberry shortcake unless it is made the Bisquick way!

Sandy,

I, too, love the fluffy dumplings.  But I can seldom get them to come out perfect, the way I remember Mom making them.  They are usually gummy.  What am I doing wrong, or what are you doing right?

I would have to  say my first memory of Bisquick was the dumplings.  I have used bisquick for several recipes and have always been very pleased.  I too always have a box of it in my cupboard.

We made everything that was on the box!  To answer Linda's question as to what she might be doing wrong with her dumplings, you need to have the liquid you are putting them in very hot and you can't take the lid off until they are done. If whatever  you are putting them into is not hot enough it will keep them dough like and taking the lid off to check them gives you the same result.  I remember my Mom yelling at me all the time 'cause I'm a stirrer and lid lifter!!

My Dad wasn't one to brag, but, he did brag about Grandma's bisquits.  So one evening at dinner Mom asked her how she made the wonderful bisquits.  Grandma told her she would give her the recipe after dinner.  After dinner, Grandma made sure the men had all left the kitchen and in a covert fashion showed her the secret box of Bisquick.  Grandma told her don't you ever tell the men I use Bisquick.  Mom felt very privileged that Grandma trusted her enough to share this well kept secret.  Baking from a box was a new fangled thing then and Grandma didn't want anyone to think she was lazy.

I often add a small amount of baking powder whenever I use Bisquick if I want something light and fluffy such as shortcakes, biscuits, waffles, etc.
