What's your first memory of Bisquick and what's your favorite way to use it?

My mom made dumplings all the time when we were growing up, probably because it was a dollar stretcher for the food budget. We loved the dumplings along with drop biscuits and pancakes she also made with little effort.

My first memory of Bisquick is as a young mom in the mid 70's and I came across a recipe for Granola Bars. They were so easy to make and tasted great.  My sons are now grown and still to this day love those Bisquick granola bars. Thier favorite of course were the ones with the chocolate chips.

Thanks Bisquick

My first memory of Bisquick is when my mother made sugar cookies.  They were excellent!  She told me that she found the receipe on the box and instead of making her own homemade cookies from scratch she started using bisquick.  I have since used it and passed this reciepe on to my children and they make it for their children.  This is a wonderful receipe, it is quick and easy & it is foolproof.  My grand daughter loves making these with me.  We decorate them during the holidays with sprinkles and different toppings.  My mother has since passed away and this is one reciepe that has become a tradition in my family thanks to my Mom & Bisquick.

Hi Patty and everyone else,  This is going to sound so sillyEmbarrassed, but because I only started cooking 2 yrs. ago, my earliest memory is my husband making silver dollar pancakes with Bisquik LAST WEEK!!!  I was in alot of pain and all I could do was talk with you guys online, my husband came home, saw the look on my face, and made these yummmmmy little pancakes with just butter and powdered sugar!  Now whenever he offers to cook, that's what I want!Big Smile  Silver dollars with butter and powdered sugar, deeeeeeelicious!!!  I've gotta tell ya' everyone's recipes sounds so good there making  me hungry.  I've got a question though,  I've heard 'drop biscuits' mentioned quite a few times and they sound great.  Can someone post the recipe(s) for me?  Thanks to all for sharing these great recipes!Yes

Hi,

My first memory of bisquick, was my mother making her chicken and dumplings. My favorite way to use bisquick now is making pancakes and the biscuits for strawberry shortcake.

I would love to have the recipe that used to be on the box. It was with, of course, Bisquick and cranberries, it was a cake. I would love to have this recipe. My cousin gave it to me years and years ago. Sadly, she has passed away, BUT I remember how wonderful that recipe was. Pecans too!

Hi 10 cats, would you mind posting your recipe for chicken and dumplings for me?  I was going to just make a chicken dish for dinner tonight, but it'd be great if I could make chicken and dumplings instead!   Please!!!!!!!! Big Smile Thanx

Mine is pancakes on Sunday mornings when I was with my dad and stepmom but my mom used to make a beer batter with bisquik and it tasted so good. She used it for batter for venison, chicken, pork chops. I have looked all over for the recipe but I can't find it. I want to coat zucchinni slices and fry them but I can't remember the recipe for the life of me. I tasted fried zucchinni and I loved it. can anybody help?

Rette1, hope this is similar to the one you are looking for.

Beer Batter

1 cup Bisquick baking mix
1/2 cup beer
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon salt

Mix ingredients by hand until smooth. If batter is too thick, stir in additional beer, 1 tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency.

To Fry:
Coat pieces in dry Bisquick. Dip pieces into batter, letting excess drip into bowl. Heat 1 1/2 inches oil in heavy saucepan or deep fryer to 350 degrees. Fry until golden brown.

My first memory of Bisquick doesn't come from home..it comes from a friend's house. See, I grew up with 8 siblings so pancakes and things of the such were made from scratch. I buy Bisquick for the memory of sleeping over at a friend's house and in the morning, her mom would make "Bisquick pancakes". Not just normal everyday pancakes..nono..*BISQUICK* pancakes. I thought they were fabulous and would seriously get a little bummed if when I slept over there weren't those same fluffy delicious pancakes in the morning. Now that I have my own children, I use Bisquick for more than just pancakes..but everytime I make them, I get that warm memory in my tummy. Who can't help but smile when something as simple as "Bisquick pancakes" made such a huge memory in oneself? Good times.

Bisquick actually has a Garlic Cheese biscuit mix! I have several bags on hand - only add water - and they are my family's favorites! They are in bags, not boxes, so be sure to look for them the next time you go grocery shopping!

I would have to say my first memory all happened in 1 day!Smile It makes me want to go back in time and relive it all over again. I was about 6 or 7 years old and in my Great-Grandmother's kitchen. It was a Sunday and we were getting ready for a family dinner. It was a very busy day and I just wanted to help. So help I did. She put me in charge of making "kid"biscuts. She called them that because it was easier for kids to do just a few ingredients rather than the "old fashioned way". After that, I helped lay peaches in the bottom of the pan to make peach cobbler. I had so much fun that day and now it's 24 years later I am about to teach my children the same things. Some things are just so warm to the heart that you want them to live on forever. Passing along the tradition, I believe is one way to keep things alive.SmileLet's all keep our warm memories going.

My mothe was killed when I was 17 and my father died  13mo later. I had to teach my self a lot in the kitchen. The VERY FIRST cookbook I bought was Betty Crocker. I still use it and I am now 54. I used Bisquick for the first time tomake Dumplings for my Sauerkraut and I still use it. I use it to bread my fish, chicken and for pancakes. I have tried substitutions but have always come back to Bisquick the the great advice of everyone's favorite cook Betty Crocker.

Many years ago, my mother made an impossible pie. It was the first time I had even seena Bisquick box because made everything from scratch.

I am not my mom, so I keep a box in the cupboard. I have made waffles at the last minute to rave reviews and biscuits that melt in your mouth.

11/14/2008 10:44 AM

my favorite memory of bisquick is my mommas chicken dumplings.  Boy do I remember those! Yum!!

My favorite way to use it is for ez cobbler topping!

11/14/2008 5:24 PM

My first memory of Bisquick was when I was young.  I read the receipes on the box and discovered one for biscuits. I decided to make biscuits for my family, and since that time, I was the one to make biscuits for us.  What a joy to begin baking by using Bisquick!

11/18/2008 9:22 PM

Not to knock Bisquick, but being a buttermilk mix the reason you can't make dumplings like your Grandmother is probably because like mine she used Jiffy Mix for them, my Grandmother used both kinds depending on what she was making. Then again my  Mother made them with flour, crisco, baking powder, salt and milk, mix and drop on stew...sure brings back good times, as I lost my Grandmother in '74 and my Mom in '88, hope this helps.
