pie dough & children

Hi, Here isone of the things that I done with my granddaughter when I was making pies. She would watch me and want to make something, so I would let her roll out the left over dough( with her small roller) and make a small pie (in a pot pie size pan) for her DadSmile. If there wasn't enough dough , then she'd use her cookie cutters and then spread butter on them , then sprinkle on sugar& cinniamon on it  making cookies.Smile

Hi

I like idea of using cookie cutters for the left over pie dough, I would always roll it out and only use the cinnamon sugar and then bake. Will definately use the cookie cutters next time.Great idea Thanks

Re: pie dough & children

I remember my grandma would let us take leftover pie dough and we would do one of two things with it, we would sprinkle the smaller pieces with cinnamon and sugar, they were good little nibbles to tide us over until dinner.  The other thing we would do was take the larger pieces and put a teaspoon of jam on it and fold it over bake and we would have our own little pie.
Wow! did she ever make a good pie crust!  I still don't have her knack for pie crust.
I love the baking memories that I have-----my parents passed away while I was pretty young so there are no real family baking recipes that I have.  It makes the memories I do have all the more special.
All I can say is teach your children and write down the recipes you have.
