It doesn't take much to put together a pretty table, but now is the time to be on the look out for little pumpkins and tiny gourds. They will keep for a while, so you can use them in your entertaining now AND save them for Thanksgiving. Play with the wonderful varieties of colors and match the flowers as well. Be on the look out for antique napkins at estate sales and stock up on hand and dish towels. Go through last years and relinquish the ones that are stained and ratty looking to the rag bin or just throw them out.
It's also a ...

THINKING THANSGIVING
Thanksgiving
is my favorite holiday. No presents, no parties, no pressure. It’s all about
the turkey and the great stuff that goes with it. It’s a day devoted to cooking
beloved comfort food; a day to kick back and eat.

I don’t know about you, but I'm still full from Thanksgiving. My holiday was a bit untraditional this year. On the actual day of Thanksgiving, I vegged out on the couch and watched movies with friends and ate frozen pizza. Having spent nearly every waking moment of my time off working on refinishing my built-in, it was nice to be off my feet and good to be in the company of friends.
For those of you following along with my project, here’s currently where I’m at:

Since my Dad and Helen were doing their own thing with Helen’s family for Thanksgiving, they invited me, my sisters and their families over for a pre-Thanksgiving get together. Once again, decorating cookies and cupcakes was a pre-dinner activity. This recipe--with yellow instead of devil's food cake--was used as inspiration for the cupcakes).
Abigail, Claire, Greta, Morgan and Ian just beginning to decorate:...

It’s hard to believe but some folks just don’t like pumpkin pie. For them, you could make a Bittersweet Chocolate-Caramel Tart for your Thanksgiving dessert.
It wasn’t the title alone that made me want to taste this recipe but the close-up photo with three slices of the tart. The crust is a chocolate cookie crust that is topped with a thick layer of homemade soft and gooey caramel and on top of that is a dark chocolate ganache. It’s garnished with a few sprinkles of Fleur de Sel (coarse sea salt). The final result is a wonderfully delicious ...

I'm happy to report that my Thanksgiving meal with the neighbors was a success. Shawn deep-fried the turkey in his backyard and the results were truly magnificent. Amy's mashed potatoes were literally swimming in butter--in a good way and, while my rolls weren't perfect looking, they tasted pretty darn good. For some reason I'm not able to post photos from home, so you'll have to wait until Wednesday for visual proof. I made the cheesecake and it, too turned out scrumptious. It wasn't as hard as I'd imagined. The water bath made me super nervous. I was worried that I hadn't wrapped the foil high enough around the sides of the spring form pan to keep the water out. My fear grew when I...

I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling stuffed just thinking about all the food I’m going to eat in the next few days. In addition to hosting Thanksgiving, my neighbors Amy and Shawn are planning a Pie Party on Friday. They’re encouraging everyone who attends to bring their leftover desserts. Talk about a sugar rush. I’m toying with the idea of making the Pumpkin-Caramel Cheesecake featured on the cover of this year’s Betty Crocker Thanksgiving magazine. I was lucky enough to get a taste of this cheesecake when the r...

So, do you have a plan for Thanksgiving yet? I’m going to be spending the day with my neighbors Amy and Shawn. This is the agenda: Morning: Kick off the day with Shawn's infamous Breakfast Pizza and mimosas. Amy and Shawn are strict about the dress code for this event. Pajamas are required (since they are across the street—I don’t even have to swap my slippers for shoes).Afternoon: NapEarly Evening: The Meal. Sh...
