It’s my birthday today and that reminds me of the birthday gift I got last year from Jason, Katie and Blake. It was a chef’s hat, apron and a silicone bakeware set —all for Blake. This was the perfect gift for me because it gave me another reason to cook with Blake. I s...

Have you recovered from losing an hour last week as our clocks “sprang forward?” The time shift is a harbinger of spring, and even here in chilly Minne-snow-ta (as my out of state friends call it), daylight has lingered for much longer this week than it has in a very, very long time.
Before life gets busy with all the obligations of spring, like Saturday m...

Cooking, baking and entertaining is a treat to me and I treated myself to a lot of it over the holidays. For one meal I baked Herb Roast Chicken and Vegetables, homemade dinner rolls, a tossed salad and Apple Crostata for dessert. For another meal I made Herb-Crusted Pork Tenderloin, baked potatoes, Cascadian Farms edemame (green soybeans) and Cranberry Sauce. (I'm always trying to add fruits or vegetables to dishes and get my kids and guests to eat more fruits and vegetables.) I baked Oatmeal Cookies, made peanut brittle and homemade lefse.
Though my kids are now teens, they still prefer simple foods; pancakes, scrambled...

If you are taking a road trip this summer and find yourself in northwestern Wisconsin, plan to stop at the Delta Diner for breakfast or lunch. We drove 23 miles from our cabin, through the beautiful North Woods of Wisconsin to arrive at this 1940's era diner—and it was worth the drive.

In the summer, I need lots of great breakfast recipes since we often entertain guests during the weekends at our cabin. When I tire of making pancakes, waffles and egg casseroles, I look for something new. Here is one of my favorite new recipes: Ham and Egg Breakfast Tarts.

As mentioned in previous posts, when it comes to breakfast food, bacon is really the be-all and end-all for me. As far as cereal is concerned, I like Cinnamon Toast Crunch a lot but not half as much as ...

Our vacation traveling buddies, Jim and Frankie, thought I should tell you about the lunch we enjoyed last week on the Dutch island of Bonaire. We rode our rented motor scooters inland for around 45 minutes to the small town of Rincon, which, according to my guidebook, was the first town on the island. (The reason the first inhabitants didn't settle on the coast is because of pirates who apparently didn't venture very far inland.)We stopped at the Rose Inn for lunch which was the only place open on a Sunday afternoon--or on any afternoon for that matter (it's a very small town). There were around four or five tables set up and a small outdoor bar. We arrived in time for the...

My husband Jack and I have been members of a not-very-serious wine group for the last several years. One couple in the group owns a farm in southern Iowa and they invited us for a wine-group weekend. There are four women in the group, including me, and we all like to cook so when it came time to plan the meals for the weekend, we were far more concerned about the food than the wine. When I volunteered to make breakfast on Saturday morning, Car...
