Whether I am on vacation or enjoying a Stay-cation, I love to explore good food. For me, good food is not necessarily fancy food, but food that has a reputation for being exceptional in some way. I always seem to pay attention to “best of” lists when it comes to food. A while back there was a list of America’s best hamburgers in GQ magazine that listed the hamburgers at Le Tub in Florida as the very best. A list from Oprah Winfrey echoed the sentiment. That was it. On our next visit to Florida, we had to go. Here are the pictures from our hamburger adventure:...

Stocking the fridge when guests come can be stressful. Everyone comes equipped with their own unique tastes and dietary needs. That’s why it’s important to choose items that have some universal appeal. This week members of my family, including a few wee ones, from all corners of the U.S. have kindly come to visit and check out my new house. Finding foods that please the babies, grandma, aunties, and uncles, can be a challenge.
Because time is a premium, it’s also very important to use recipes that are simple and require only a few steps. Why spend time in the kitchen when you could be visiting with your family? Slow...

When I go on vacation, I love to explore food. I don’t look for the most expensive or exotic foods, but the ones that are much beloved by locals and show off the character of a town. My previous post on my hometown favorites shows the kind of humble but perfect food that I love.
A few years ago, we went to Maine and loved trying foods like lobster rolls and blueberry pie. I find that I take a lot of pictures of the foods I encounter on vacation. I like to remember those moments and try to recreate them at home. It can be difficult to find the...

I’m off on vacation next week. My goal is to blog at least once but I’m not making any promises. I’m not going anywhere; just sticking close to home and getting a few home improvement projects done. If the weather permits, I’ll be spending my time digging in the dirt planting flowers, enjoying evenings on the deck with my neighbors and spending quality time with my favorite four-legged friend.

I've just returned home to Minnesota from a week-long vacation on a warm (85°F everyday) and sunny island. Tonight our temperature is supposed to go down to -12°F tonight. That's a 97°F. difference!
Just in case you were wondering, the highlights of my week were: eating every meal outside, renting a scooter to drive around the island and stopping for great photo opportunities everyw...

When you read this, I'll be snorkeling off the coast of the island of Bonaire--just north of Venezuela. (Once again, my thanks to Heidi for posting this for me.) It's REALLY cold in Minnesota now so I picked a good week to spend on sunny, warm island.I always like to plan ahead when I travel--especially in regard to what restaurants I want to visit and what f...

About this time of the year, I begin to plan how I will spend my vacation days for the rest of the year. (I'm actually on vacation right now and Heidi is posting this for me. I'll tell you all about it when I return.) One of my favorite vacations was one I took to the South of France where I attended a week-long cooking class in Julia Childs' home--the one she and her husband Paul built so they could live near Julia's very best friend, Simone Beck. Kathie Alex runs the cooking school called, Cooking With Friends in France which is a culinary immersion program that features cooking classes, a market tour, cheese ripening cave and butcher shop tours, classes w...
