Watney the Wonder Dog
by Heidi at Betty Crocker 2/4/2009 10:18:00 AM

This is Watney. To say Watney had a rough weekend is an understatement. He had several severe seizures on Friday and then went into what AC could only describe as a “zombie-like state” for about 72 hours. During this state he didn’t recognize anyone and he spent more than20 hours frantically pacing in circles. (I could hear him panting in the background when AC called from the vet.) He actually wore out one of the pads on his paws. After trips to both their local vet and the University of Minnesota veterinary clinic, A...

Cook and Bake Safely
by jillbcooks 1/27/2009 9:05:00 AM

You know that sound, the one that is an absolute annoyance?  Though tempting to ignore, I learned last week that attention must be paid to a screeching fire alarm.  When I was a kids, the sound of the fire alarm on a Sunday morning meant that mom’s bacon was done.  It would be my job to respond to it by standing on a chair and waving at the fire detector with a dish towel until it stopped.  Now, I live in a building with multiple units and my home shares a wall with my neighbors’ place.  I heard their fire alarm going off and figured it would stop, that someone burned toast or something.  It didn’t stop, though.  And soo...

Birthday Recap
by Heidi at Betty Crocker 10/22/2008 6:22:00 PM

I had a great birthday. Thanks for asking. Apart from the whole getting older thing, it was really fun. You know how when you become an adult your birthday feels like just another day? That was not the case for me on Monday thanks to all my friends who stepped in to make the day special. I started with my favorite bacon in the morning (Andi bought me a pound as a birthday gift). Then I met some friends at a neighborhood strip mall where we indulged our inner princesses with a pedicure, followed by lunch at almos...

Bacon Birthday
by Heidi at Betty Crocker 10/17/2008 10:49:00 AM

Monday is my birthday and Andi, being the kind (and crazy) coworker that she is, orchestrated a surprise party for me yesterday. There was brown butter pound cake with brown butter frosting, gifts and—this is the clincher—two kinds of bacon ice cream. Seriously. Bacon. Ice. Cream. Despite a busy day at work and then French class, Andi went home Wednesday night and whipped up two kinds of bacon ice cream (though I think “whipped up” hardly describes the process of making homemade ice cream). The Pecan-Brown Sugar & Bacon Ice Cream recipe was from ...

Food for Thought
by Heidi at Betty Crocker 7/16/2008 9:57:00 AM

My thoughts are all over the place today so here are several snippets with no real theme:  Last night I was at Salut with my friend Michelle to celebrate her birthday. She ordered a ...

Heaven on Earth
by Heidi at Betty Crocker 6/23/2008 4:13:00 PM

I hit the town with AC and Luke on Thursday night. After a failed attempt to see a Journey cover band out in the ’burbs, we drove to Minneapolis to Triple Rock Social Club where I enjoyed some of the greatest mac and cheese of my life. Maybe it was the beer I consumed prior to my meal, or maybe it was due to the fact...

Bacon Lovers Unite!
by Heidi at Betty Crocker 4/30/2008 2:19:00 PM

Apparently I am not the only one out there with an extreme love of bacon. A colleague recently forwarded me this article from the Dallas Morning News  that features a recipe for bacon cookies, and another coworker brought a little bag of Bacon Brittle in to work to share. The brittle is from a restaurant called ...
