Birthday Buzz
by Heidi at Betty Crocker  1/30/2009 4:29:00 PM

Today we celebrated Kristen's birthday. She's an assistant food editor in the Kitchens. Since she and her boyfriend keep bees (I think "keep" is the right word; "raise" sounds wrong) Andi had Kathy, a Betty Crocker Kitchens Technician, make a Chocolate Honey-Dome Cake with Chocolate-Honey Glaze to celebrate. You can find the recipe here. Kristin was surprised (her birthday is actually next week) and we all got the opportunity to indulge in a little chocolate. Definitely a win-win situation.

Kathy found that some of the frosting fell off the cake when she applied the pecans. Instead of tossing the frosting out, she make it into truffles. Now that's my kind of reuse/recycle.

In talking to Kristen about bees, I learned some interesting facts. Did you know you can order bees online? They get sent through the regular mail and 2,000 to 3,000 fit in a shoebox-size container. I'd hate to be a mail carrier responsible for that package!

Heidi, I find your blog so disappointing, especially these latest two entries. I'd wish you focus on COOKING more like Andi does, with actual recipes and tips. I really hope we see more "meat" in your entries like your fellow bloggers. It's beyond disheartening to see you promote "frozen pizzas and mac and cheese" from a box on a site like this.

I never thought of combining chocolate and honey....a great idea that I will use next year during Rosh Hashanah.

While everyone has a right to their own opinion, I have to disagree with FannyFarmer. I love that Heidi brings the "everygal" into the mix. Not all of us are gourmet cooks or have the desire to spend hours on new recipes. Heidi's voice represents a big population of people and I think variety is essential to blog readers. Personally, I'd rather read her entries with their wit and honesty than the other bloggers entries because I relate to her. I hope the folks at BC recognize her contribution to the team and keep her blog posts coming! And by the way, that chocolate cake looks awesome!
