Charlotte BBQ Contest
by Hurricane Mike  9/9/2008 2:13:00 PM

Looks like we have at least two BBQ contest left for us this year. The first is coming up this weekend. It’s the “Blues, Brews and BBQ Contest” here in Charlotte. Nice and close to home so travel is not an issue. Greg was going to come in from AL but with Hurricane Ike heading towards the Gulf he’s a little too nervous to leave. Mark will come in from Bristol, TN and of course Papa Pig himself had to come in from Florida (probably more to see his grandkids than to cook).

Below is a picture of him cleaning one of our cookers this week. Our team has 5 Lang Cookers. Check out his web site at pigroast.com for some of the best made and most reasonable cookers that you will ever find. I swear by them. Wish us luck at Charlotte. The past two years we have ended up in the finals but have not won first. This may be the year!

Hi Mike. I'm family some how, on the Baker side. I wish you luck for the next two contests this year. Grandma says your doing good and having fun. Too bad we don't have many contests up here in Washington state. I just got a box smoker and done a lot with it in two weeks now. Made smoked tuna yesterday, 7 hours and 11 beers later I had a good snack. Now if I could only catch some stinken salmon this year I think they will smoke up just as good. BBQ and beer with family... it don't get better than that. Again, best of luck to you, and keep the heat on the competition.

Mike, Suzie Que and I were sorry we did not get to spend time with you guys at BB&B. As you know I taught a cooking class on Friday and was hobled with a broken leg. Hope to see you next year. I hope you enjoyed my latest version of the cookbook. I hope to go to press in 60 days and would like to include some recipes from you that you are willing to share. Poppa Pig is still our favorite team to visit in Charlotte. Billy Bob Billy holysmokerstoo@comcast.net
