Silicone Bakeware for a Little Cook
by AndiatBettyCrocker 9/30/2009 4:17:00 PM

It’s my birthday today and that reminds me of the birthday gift I got last year from Jason, Katie and Blake. It was a chef’s hat, apron and a silicone bakeware set —all for Blake. This was the perfect gift for me because it gave me another reason to cook with Blake. I s...

Making Crescent Dogs with Blake
by AndiatBettyCrocker 9/24/2009 1:00:00 PM

Blake and Jack had busy morning at the cabin, last weekend. They removed some sod from under a tree in our front yard, added some paving stones in a ring around the base of the tree and then filled the ring with mulch. They are wearing their matching U.W. hats, just in case any Badger fans are reading this. (Both of Blake's parents are Madison grads.) Around noon, they came in for lunch. Since Blake likes to “cook”, I waited for him to help me make some Crescent Dogs. You need just ...

Bacon, Lettuce and Tomatoes
by AndiatBettyCrocker 9/23/2009 1:44:00 PM

Kristen with Veggies From Her Garden There is nothing like a fresh tomato from the garden. They are sweet, juicy and have that wonderful garden-fresh flavor. We are eating them like apples around here because Kristen (Assistant Food Editor) is bringing some in, nearly every day, from her garden. She planted three kinds of tomatoes in the spring: Yellow Pear, Amish Paste and Brandywine. Yesterday, we made BLTs for lunch and today another food editor is planning to make tomato sandwiches with homemade pickle relish and just a little mayo – she is even skipping the ...

Yogurt Parfaits are Quick and Easy to Make for Breakfast
by AndiatBettyCrocker 9/18/2009 1:53:00 PM

We are headed up to our cabin, tonight after work and bringing Blake (now 2 years and 4 months old) along with us. Jack and I are looking forward to spending time with him tomorrow, while we do some yard work and of course, cook our meals. Blakes likes helping us.   Since Blake loves yogurt, I&...

When Europeans Come for a Visit – What Do You Serve for Dinner?
by AndiatBettyCrocker 9/17/2009 12:31:00 PM

Angela, Ivan and baby Kerana I enjoy making new friends and so when my friend, Frankie, told me that her college friend was hosting her niece and husband from Bulgaria for a few weeks, I invited all of them to our house for dinner.  Angela is doing graduate work on Bulgarian music and is even in a band in Bulgaria. OM—A New Indian Restaurant in Downtown MPLS
by AndiatBettyCrocker 9/11/2009 8:58:00 AM

I was invited to a “mock dinner” (sort of like a sneak preview in the movie world) on Wednesday night to check out the new OM Restaurant, opening tonight in downtown Minneapolis.  Raghavan Iyer was the creative and culinary genius for OM’s menu. Here he is (in the purple jacket) with the group at my table. He is also the author of the ...

Crab Cakes and Corn Cakes—Are they really Cakes??
by AndiatBettyCrocker 9/8/2009 12:11:00 PM

Mini Mexican Corn Cakes The savory cakes I’m referring to are crab cakes, shrimp cakes and even Butternut Squash Cakes with Tarragon Aïoli which I recently tasted at The Sample Room, a restaurant in Northeast Minneapolis.  I can’t figure out why these are called cakes instead of patties, and a quick online search at gourmetsleuth.com didn&rsquo...
