When someone asks me for a copy of a recipe that I’ve served to them, I take that as the highest compliment someone could give me. It means that they liked what I served—really liked it and may want to make it for their friends or relatives.

Every fall we wait for the Italian Deli, D’Amico & Sons, in General Mills to start selling their wonderful, soft, moist pumpkin cookies with lots of frosting. Every noon as I walk by I see several dozen of these cookies lined up on the counter and I often stop and buy one…..or two. They are so delicious that I really don’t mind spending $2.00 for each one. In October, I get cravings for German food. Maybe that’s because it’s the time of year when my German grandmother would bake pork chops and sauerkraut, in a casserole, for dinner. When I was growing up, heating up the oven to make diner was also a nice way to make our house feel warmer on cool fall nights. I hosted a bridal-shower dinner last night and when my guests started to arrive, I had some appetizers ready for them to enjoy. Before I get to the topic of this post on Monday, October 12th, I feel as if I must share with you something about the weekend weather, here in Minneapolis. Last Friday with temps in the upper 20°s and snow overnight, it seemed too early for winter to begin. It is snowing again today and the forecast is for at least 2 inches more.
