How Many Cookbooks Do You Have?
by AndiatBettyCrocker  10/29/2009 2:26:00 PM

In a recent online survey, the question was asked: How many cookbooks do you have? The categories in the survey were:
I’m a hoarder – Over 50!
I’m a collector—25 to 50
A full shelf—10 to 25
A handful—5 to 10
Just a few—1 to 4
Zip! I use the internet, magazines, etc.

Based on the survey, I’m a “hoarder!” Here is built-in bookcase in our family room where I store my cookbooks. I started collecting cookbooks when I was in college and have been adding to my collection ever since.

Many of us love cookbooks. Here are the results of my survey of co-workers when I asked them to tell me which was their favorite cookbook (in no particular order):

-The Silver Palate cookbook by Julee Rosso and Sheila Lukins
-Joy of Cooking
-Way to Cook by Julia Child
-Betty Crocker Big Red
-Pillsbury Complete Cookbook
- Feast of Life by Patricia Quintana
- The Taste of Mexico by Patricia Quintana
-The Cooking Light Annuals
-My 1971 Betty Crocker cookbook that I received as a new bride
-Betty Crocker Quick & Easy cookbook
-Pillsbury Bake-Off cookbook
-Rachael Ray for quick meal ideas
-The book that my mother gave me at my bridal shower that she created with all the recipes that I loved from childhood
-The Trellis Cookbook by Marcel Desaulnier
-The Colorado Cache and Crème de Colorado cookbooks – both the Denver Junior league
-Savoring the Seasons by Beth Dooley and Lucia Watson
-Betty Crocker Cooky Book

I Have over 200 hard back cookbooks plus numerous community cookbooks. I love cookbooks and find that older ones are easy to find on Ebay. Also,I have an old Betty Crocker green plastic recipe box full of recipes. I love getting out the cookbooks and hunting different recipes. I love the Krafts Food & Family magazine. It is always full of fast fix meals.

I am inundated with cookbooks, and when I decide to make a recipe I get the ingredients then can't remember where I saw the recipe I am now ready to make. I guess I have close to 1,000 and have actually started trying to give someaway. I love all the "light" magazines and have tried to cut down to "Light and Tasty" which I love. I am either on a diet, going on a diet, breaking a diet, etc, etc. But when I get that urge to cook I will cook what I want to and promptly give it away, just to see how it come together. I would rather eat my calories than drink them.

I probably had over a 1,000 at one time but when I divorced, I only took 30 filled boxes with me. They are still in storage. Since that time I have acquired at least 200 more. Love to read them and think I HAVE to have every single one I read. Getting better about not buying, but oh how I love reading them.
