Summer Rituals
by jillbcooks  8/22/2010 8:54:00 PM

As summer is winding down and kids are headed back to school, are you planning to do anything that you do “every year?”  Maybe it is going to the state fair or spending the day school clothes shopping, or heading up to the cabin or out on the lake one last time?  Creating rituals that you do every year can be a great way to develop memories and also times to look forward to.

I’ve been meaning to blog about what we do each July Fourth.  Usually we entertain and grill, but we also play a game every year.  The game is called Know your America, and I originally heard of it when I received it as a gift when I was probably ten years old.  The game has categories about Famous American Inventors, U.S. Presidents, the 50 States and American History.  Playing the game seems like an apropos way to celebrate the meaning behind the day, and it is a summer ritual.  We play after dinner as we eat dessert

Know Your America
What are some ways you celebrate summer each year?  What are you going to squeeze in to the last days of summer?  Need some inspiration?  Try making these Mr. Sun Cupcakes.

Oh wow, you have that game! I used to like playing it when we were kids, how fun! Since this was L's first year in elementary school, we spent the day before getting a hair cut, a backpack, lunch supplies and new shoes. Also, L got to pick where we went to lunch and she chose McD's because they had Littlest Petshop toys!
