Candy Kabobs in Catalina
by jillbcooks  7/27/2010 9:15:00 PM

A couple weeks ago I was visiting Catalina Island, a small island off the coast of California.  It was absolute paradise: sunny skies, cool breeze, and beautiful blue waves.  My sweet little nieces splashed around in the surf for a while, and when they had enough, we went looking for a bite to eat.  On the way to the burger joint where they decided they wanted to eat (and feed the birds French fries), we spotted an old fashioned candy store, which my nieces insisted we got to after lunch (and, honestly, I would have been disappointed if we didn’t).

We all made big eyes when we stepped into Lloyd's of Avalon Confectionery.  The two of them zeroed in on caramel apples, and their Grammy bought them one for a treat.  I fell in love with these candy kabobs.  They are wooden skewers with gummi, juju, and sour strip/leather type candy.  Making these would be great fun for a rainy day or birthday party or chasing away summer doldrums.

Here’s a close up look.  Cute, right?
