Formal Tea at Sea
by jillbcooks  7/22/2010 8:22:00 AM

I just returned from a girls-only family trip that celebrated a milestone birthday for my mom.  My sisters and nieces took mom on a cruise.  It was a pleasure and a delight to see everyone and to enjoy their company in such a relaxed atmosphere.  Cruises offer all kinds of entertainment and finding fun takes very little effort on a cruiser’s part.  Cruises are also well known for the constant availability of food (my five year old niece and her two year old sister discovered room service and loved it).  Combining entertainment and food one afternoon, we found ourselves at a formal tea.  It was one of the highlights  of my trip.

All the treats were served by table captains from carts.  I love it when a selection of treats are brought to me.

A view from the table, sandwiches and more treats like soft, decadent cream puffs.

My favorite dessert of the day was a tiny peach crumble.  Diced fresh peaches were topped with a streusel reminiscent of shortbread cookie and baked until juicy and sweet.

Even if a cruise is not on your calendar, you can celebrate someone special with a tea party at home.

Recipes to try:

Tea Sandwiches

Cream Puffs

Chocolate Ganache Meringues
