I was a part of a cooking event last week on Yom HaAtzmaut, which is Israeli Independence Day. The celebration often features Israeli food—think of eating all-American foods like hot dogs and apple pie on July Fourth—such as falafel, pita, hummus, and Israeli salad.
The group I happened to be working with made Israeli pickles. The pickles are small and sour, made in brine and very different from kosher dill pickles. Here is a great blog post on making Israeli pickles.
The pickles were a hit. I’d say the kids loved them. Check out the picture I took. The kids showed me how the cut pickles looked like the shape of a heart. Cute, right?
Hungry for some Israeli foods? Try this Betty Crocker recipe for Middle Eastern Pita Pizza.
