Cupcakes: Still on Trend
by jillbcooks  3/1/2010 5:12:00 PM

Love them or hate them, cupcakes are still a hot food trend.  I personally love cupcakes, and prefer them topped simply with buttercream frosting than overworked and topped with intricate fondant.  The trend has been around a while, and I have certainly eaten my share of cupcakes from towers at friends’ weddings, received cupcakes as favors at showers, and even received a cupcake carrier as a gift.  I guess with any trend, time forces obsolescence or innovation, and I was very impressed when I saw these innovations:

A Cupcake Bouquet
A company, located in Los Angeles, places their delicious looking cupcakes on holders that are attached to picks, which are then arranged as a bouquet.  Pretty amazing!  While the holders might be proprietary to the company, I bet that marshmallows could be used to support a cupcake if you wanted to make your own DIY project.

A Floral Cupcake Centerpiece (you really do need to click through and see the gorgeous photo.)
This would be a very fun addition to an kind of party, especially an anniversary party or bridal shower.

Frosting Shots
Frosting is flavored and served in small “one bite” quantities and embellished with sprinkles, chocolate shavings, candies or espresso beans.  How fun would this be for a wedding or prom?

I love these Lamb Cupcakes....here's hoping March comes in like a lamb and leaves like one, too!  Happy March!

I live in Saratoga Springs, NY. There have been two cupcake places that opened. My daughter bought some for my birthday and spent a fortune. They were awful and not very fancy. We could have done a much better job with a cake mix and frosting. It was unbelivable to me that anyone would buy them. We were short on time otherwise we would have baked. Just my opinion.
