Mishloach Manot Mitzvah Madness

One of the most fun Jewish holidays is one that is far lesser known than Hanukkah or Passover. Purim is a holiday that involves a lot less of the decorum of other holidays. Purim recalls the story of Esther and her ability with her Uncle Mordecai to foil the evil plot of Haman, who sought to harm the Jews of Persia. Since the plan is foiled, the holiday is one of celebration. Purim involves festive community costume parties and lots of food and drink.
My favorite tradition associated with Purim is creating mishloach manot, or gifts of food. Since giving mishloach manot is considered a mitzvah, a couple of rules apply to doing this good deed correctly. For mishloch manot, the requirement is that the food be ready to eat, and that there are at least two varieties of food. Some people create complex Purim baskets and others put a few treats on a plate for friends and acquaintances. I like to make my own treats to send as mishloach manot. This year I am making different kinds of fudge (chocolate and peanut-mallow) and cake truffles and packing them in tiny Chinese take-out containers.
