Baking Focaccia and Ciabatta Bread

I love any kind of bread, and to me, a meal doesn’t feel like a meal without some bread.  I tend not to buy bread from the bakery on the grocery.  Focaccia is $3.99 for a smallish loaf at the grocery store where I shop (it’s not a fancy place, either).  Focaccia is a flat bread, usually flavored with olive oil and topped with salt or herbs.  In actuality, focaccia is easy and inexpensive to make.  I threw one together last night to eat with dinner tonight.  I topped mine with sea salt and dried rosemary.  This is my favorite recipe.  I keep the ingredients in my pantry, so I can have fresh bread any time.

Parchment paper helps the bread release easily after baking.

The final product...a beauty!

A similar type of bread is ciabatta, which is also a yeast-raised dough that is relatively flat.  Both of the breads are great for sandwiches, especially Panini.  This Italian Vegetable Focaccia Sandwich is easy and delicious.

I like to give focaccia as a hostess gift with a bottle of olive oil.
