The weekend before last, we awoke to a frosty world outside. The trees and bushes were all beautifully white, giving the feel and look of a winter wonderland.

This was the morning, we left home to travel to the Oakenwald Terrace B&B in southern Minnesota—just nine miles south of Rochester, MN. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary along with our friends, Jim and Frankie. We have celebrated with them ever since our first anniversary, 34 years ago. (Our anniversary is on February 14th and their anniversary is on February 13th.) It’s a very nice tradition.

When we checked in, we were shown to our room by our hosts, Ruth Ann and Bob. Here we are in the large suite we reserved. It was full of antique furniture as you can see below.

This lovely old home, built in 1897, has a large dining room with a table large enough to seat at least 16 guests. Unlike some B&BS, the Oakenwald Terrance has a license to serve both dinner and breakfast. Part of the fun of staying at B&B for us, is to meet and chat with the other guests over dinner or breakfast.

On Sunday morning, we were served Banana Pancakes in the shape of hearts for breakfast to celebrate Valentine’s Day. How perfect was that?! Blake, like his father before him, loves pancakes and waffles for breakfast. We will make them for him, the next time he stays with us.
