In October, I get cravings for German food. Maybe that’s because it’s the time of year when my German grandmother would bake pork chops and sauerkraut, in a casserole, for dinner. When I was growing up, heating up the oven to make diner was also a nice way to make our house feel warmer on cool fall nights. (If you read my post on October 12th, you will know that “cool” fall weather around the Twin Cities this year means 20°F at night.)
Another reason to think about German food this time of year is because the original Oktoberfest occurred in Munich, on October 18th, 1810.

To celebrate the Octoberfest or cool fall nights this weekend, why not make Bavarian Pork Chops and Sauerkraut for dinner?
